Independent investigators have provided an update into the fatal crash on Lever Edge Lane on Sunday, October 2.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has provided an update on the horror crash in the early hours of Sunday in which a man, 34, died.

The crash happened at 2am on Lever Edge Lane.

Police say the Nissan Micra failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

One person died and two were seriously injured in the crash which involved a parked car.

The 34-year-old man who died was a front seat passenger while the driver and a woman, in her 30s, a back seat passenger were both seriously injured.

An IOPC spokesperson said: “We are independently investigating the circumstances of a fatal collision in Bolton on Sunday (2 October).

“We were notified by Greater Manchester Police due to the fact officers were in pursuit of a Nissan Micra before it collided with a parked vehicle on Lever Edge Lane at around 2.10am.

“While our investigation is at an early stage, we understand the vehicle, which officers suspected had been taken without the owner’s consent, had failed to stop for police shortly before the incident.

“A 34-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Micra sadly died, while the male driver and a female passenger were both seriously injured.

“IOPC investigators were sent to the scene and to the police post-incident procedures to begin gathering evidence.”

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Floral tributes have been laid at the site of the crash, with one saying, 'To our beautiful Simon Edward Bailey'.

The area was cordoned off all Sunday morning as investigation into the crash took place.
