A Bolton worker has raised £10,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust after a company-wide challenge to get active.

William Mather, 36, at Aldi’s Bolton Distribution Centre, was one of 438 Aldi colleagues who took part in a company-wide challenge to get active whilst raising money for the trust.

The 36-year-old walked and ran over 245 miles in one week and was rewarded by Aldi with a £10,000 donation to Teenage Cancer Trust.

He said: “Covering almost 400km was a real challenge for me, both mentally and physically, but I am so proud of what I was able to achieve. I was really pleased to be able to raise some money for Teenage Cancer Trust as it’s a charity that’s close to my heart.”

William has worked at Aldi for two years and previously completed several fundraising events raising around £9,500 for various charities.

Liz Fox, National Corporate Responsibility Director at Aldi UK, said: “This challenge really showed the spirit and determination of our colleagues, and we are all so immensely proud to have come together to support Teenage Cancer Trust.

“The care and guidance Teenage Cancer Trust provide to young people who are in such difficult situations is invaluable and the importance of what they do can’t be overestimated.”

Aldi has been working with Teenage Cancer Trust since 2017 and Aldi colleagues across the country have helped raise more than £7 million through various initiatives, with a target to raise £10 million by 2027.
