People in Bolton are experiencing phone signal and internet problems due to O2 carrying out improvements.

Many people have complained of bad signal and internet service for a number of weeks with O2 confirming they were experiencing issues as they worked on improvements.

People in Horwich are experiencing the worst of the signal issues as O2 are down in the area.

To get any bars of signal, people may need to move around in their homes.

A spokesman for O2 said: “We are carrying out planned network upgrades to improve our services in the Bolton area.

“Our engineers are working as quickly as possible to install the new equipment and we apologise to residents in the area who may have been experiencing intermittent issues while this takes place.”

A Beverley Road resident said: “If you sit in the back rooms of the house you’ll have zero signal, so to get it, I have to sit in the front and even then, it’s bad.”

The issues seem to only be occurring in Bolton as people say when leaving town their signal comes back.

But the issues have prompted people to want to leave the mobile provider as O2 cannot say when things will return to normal and with many people relying on their phones for everyday use, it presents a problem.

On O2’s website, a statement for service in Bolton said: “Users are reporting problems related to: phone, internet and total blackout.

“This means your data could be slower than normal.

“We’re sorry about that. Our team is aware and working to make it better. Our top tips for staying connected would be to find local Wifi hotspots and download whatever content you need whilst connected to Wifi, so you can still enjoy it on the move.”

Amid O2’s troubles, a phone mast also seems to be not working in Farnworth, with people having similar problems calling, texting and getting online.

A resident said: “We have had no phone signal around the North Avenue, Farnworth area for about a month now.

“We can hear people perfectly but they can't hear us.

“From speaking to my neighbours and the takeaway A'La Pizza around the corner, the issue seems to be affecting mobiles and landlines.”

Signal issues may also be checked online.
