There are still plenty of firework displays taking place across Bolton despite the popular Leverhulme Park display being cancelled.

Town Hall chiefs revealed last Thursday that they could not afford to put on the display at Leverhulme Park this year.

The Covid outbreak meant the last time the display was held was in 2019.

The news was met with varied reactions from residents with some describing it as the “highlight of the year”, whilst others were more concerned with how this might lead to an increase in unregulated firework use.

The announcement came just hours after it emerged the Heaton Park firework display has also been cancelled for the same reason.

But many other displays have already kicked off in Bolton including a firework display at Bradshaw Cricket Club complete with full lighting.

Early bonfire celebrations are also taking place at Egerton Cricket Club on Friday October 21, where there will be a bar and lots of food and refreshments.

There will be fireworks and a funfair, with gates opening at 5:30pm and fireworks starting at 8pm.

It costs £3 per adult and £2 per child.

Cllr Samantha Connor said: “It’s wonderful for the community.

“It’s always been a huge event, and very well supported.

“It’s exciting with the fairground rides and firework displays, and great fun for all the family.”
