A drug driver was arrested on the motorway after being stopped with thousands of pounds worth of cannabis.

The Fiat Punto was stopped by police officers on the M62 near the Birchwood Interchange at junction 11 on Wednesday night.

On stopped the car, police officers then began a search and found £5,000 worth of cannabis inside.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “This Fiat Punto was picked up by Road Patrol Task Force patrols on the M62 at Eccles.

“Pre-emptive tactics were used and the vehicle was safely stopped at junction 11 on the M62.

“Inside the car was located over £5000 worth of cannabis.”

“The driver also failed a drugs test.”

Officers have confirmed that the driver was arrested for drug driving and possession with intent to supply.

No one else is believed to have been inside the car.

This comes after other recent cases of crime on the motorways and roads in and around the Bolton area and elsewhere across Greater Manchester.

Many of these have resulted in cars being seized by officers and sanctions handed out to owners.

Police have appealed for anyone concerned about vehicle theft or about other cases of crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads to phone 101 or 999 in an emergency.
