Three fire crews were called out in the early hours of the morning to deal with a blaze at a supermarket in Westhoughton.

A fire broke out at the Sainsbury's on Cricketers Way at around 3.30am on Saturday, October 22.

Three crews from Atherton, Hindley and Bolton Central arrived at the scene shortly after.

Staff were evacuated upon discovery of the fire, and firefighters used a fan to ventilate the smoke which had filled the store.

It is thought that the fire originated in a skip or a clothes bank next to the store, but it is unclear at this point whether it was deliberate or not.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At half past three this morning, Saturday 22nd October, a fire broke out in a Sainsbury’s supermarket on Cricketers Way, Bolton.

"Firefighters from Hindley, Atherton, and Bolton fire stations extinguished the fire and ventilated the smoke from the store.

"Supermarket staff evacuated successfully upon discovery of the fire and there were no reported injuries."
