Smithills Open Farm vehicle overturns on Chorley Old Road

Emergency services were called to Chorley Old Road, Doffcocker just after 9pm.

The accident happened near to Triangle Community Methodist Church.

A spokesperson from Smithills Open Farm told The Bolton News: "He's okay. He came out of hospital at 4.30 this morning.

"There weren't any serious injuries, obviously he's a bit sore and shaken up, but he's okay. He has been very lucky.

"The gentleman involved, he said he was coughing and it was a blackout a little bit, and then it happened.

"Luckily no one was around, they were parked cars he hit, so no one else was hurt."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service said: “Just after 9pm last night (Tuesday 25 October) we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Chorley Old Road, Bolton, involving five vehicles.

“One fire engine from Bolton Central was quickly mobilised to the scene. Firefighters administered first aid to one man and made the vehicles safe before handing over to colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.

“The crew was in attendance for just over half an hour.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 9pm last night (Tuesday 25 October 2022) GMP were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

"Emergency services attended the scene, and a man in his 40s was taken to hospital with non-life- threatening injuries."

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle was called to an RTC on Chorley Old Road, Bolton, at 21:03, to attend to a male patient with injuries to his arm and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital."

Local resident Paul Armstrong was in his house when the crash happened.

He said: “It was literally right outside my front window.

“It was a huge bang, that’s how it got our attention. We went outside, and as I got outside the guy was kicking his way out of the vehicle, he was kicking the windscreen out.

“He then sat on the kerb on the side of the road.

“My wife went across the road to give, he wanted a drink, only orange cordial, he was in shock, his mouth was a bit dry."

Paul continued: “He had a graze on his arm and shoulder, which he said was hurting but other than that he was fine.

“When I went out, I was expecting to pull someone out.

“The road was blocked off lower down at the Doffcocker Inn, the police blocked it off and buses had to be diverted.

“The guy walked out, then I’m assuming the people who came to help were people from Smithills Open Farm.

“It was a vehicle with Smithulls Open Farm livery on it. There were quite a few people who came in pickup trucks, they looked like farm type vehicles.”
