Beautifully decorated pebbles commemorating the great sacrifice made have been placed in and around Bromley Cross in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

Ward councillors in Bromley Cross are hosting special events on the lead up to and on Remembrance Day to remember the fallen soldiers who fought for the country.

And as part of this is hidden pebbles which have been decorated with poppies, around Egerton and Bromley Cross as a way of families to get involved with remembrance activities.

The stone pebbles, painted by local Egerton resident, Ken Holt, are being hidden in the village and local parks and Cllr Connor is inviting families to get involved.

Cllr Samantha Connor said: "We have ‘hidden’ the painted pebbles for two years now.

"They are kindly painted by Ken Holt to raise awareness of Remembrance Day for the children.

"We hide them in areas such as the parks, walks and around local shops etc.

"The community have really enjoyed looking for them so far, taking pictures and placing them at Dunscar War Memorial.

"It has been a well received activity during the half term break and enjoyed by all."

The idea is families find the poppy pebbles, take a picture with them and share on social media before placing them at Dunscar War Memorial in Egerton to mark Remembrance Day.

All residents in the area are invited to take part in the hunt and to have some fun.

This isn't the only way councillors and residents in the area are commemorating this time of year.

Early last week, the popular ‘Poppy on the Lamppost' returned with residents and councillors Cllr Samantha Connor, Cllr Amy Cowen and Cllr Nadim Muslim displaying poppies on the lampposts throughout Bromley Cross and Egerton.

Councillors are asking people to make donations and support the campaign with all funds going to the Royal British Legion, by dropping off a donation at The White House Dry Cleaners or Baker's.

On Remembrance Day itself the community will take part in the Act of Remembrance at 11am on the Sunday, preceded by the 10am Service of Remembrance at Christ Church Walmsley, with procession then leading to the Memorial.
