TRAFFIC chaos in the town centre is nothing new as this picture from 1970 demonstrates.
But there was a specific reason why everywhere was gridlocked on Bradshawgate.
Hundreds of students were marching through Bolton protesting at proposed cuts in education.
You can see the back of the protest march in the distance on the left of the photo.
The picture is also a fascinating snapshot in time of one of Bolton’s main shopping streets. Who remembers the likes of Yates Wine Lodge, the Prince William Restaurant and Kendall’s umbrella and mac shop - all of which you can see clearly?
And look at the different vehicles. Does anyone remember seeing three-wheeled trucks such as the one to the right?
