A road in Bolton was closed for around two hours after a collision this afternoon.

Emergency services were called Elgin Street in the town at 1.30pm.

One person was taken to hospital as a result of injuries which were sustained.

The crash took place between two bus stops on the street and multiple services had to be rerouted away from the area.

Drivers were temporarily urged to avoid the area to avoid being caught up in the disruption.

One nearby resident came home about an hour and a half later and found the incident was ongoing.

They said: "got home about 3pm and it had happened.

"It was a two vehicle crash.

"People were taken to hospital.

"It took place between two bus stations.

"They have rerouted the buses.

"Two buses were blocked."

A spokesperson for GMP said: “We can confirm it was an RTC.

“We were called just after 1.30pm to Elgin Street, Bolton.”

A spokesperson from NWAS said: “A rapid response vehicle and ambulance were called at 13:34 to Elgin Street, Bolton to attend to an RTC.

“The patient was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.”

The road reopened at around 3.30pm.

Police remained on the scene until a white Nishan Qashqai, which had been involved in the collision, was recovered on the back of a van.

Following this officers left the road and it w as reopened.

There was disruption in Bolton elsewhere this afternoon as traffic lights went out at the junction between Blackburn Road and Crompton Way.

People in the area have previously complained about roadworks in the area causing delays.

Transport for Greater Manchester Reported at around 2.30pm there was a signal failure.

The result was large queues of cars formed on Crompton Way and Blackburn Road on the approach to the junction between the two roads.

The issue was repaired at around 4.30pm.
