TRIBUTES have been paid to a grandad who loved to entertain his family.

Harry Emery, from Westhoughton, died peacefully at home with his daughters by his side.

The 80-year-old grew up in Bolton and attended Emmanuel CE Primary School then moved onto White Bank Boys Secondary School.

He worked a Magees Brewery then moved onto be a RAC recovery driver before being an ice cream driver and then went on to be a taxi driver for 20 years.

Grandson Ryan Hough said: “He was a character and was a laugh and right up his death he always had people in stitches.

“He was very witty and a typical grandad and something you would expect from an older gentleman.

“He was also a very proud person and loved to be around the kids and grandkids and would go to an occasion if there was one.

“He was really into cowboys and Indians and used to do lots of role play.

“There is going to be a floral tribute in the shape of a 3D cowboy hat.

“I think it was something to do with his era when he grew up and it stuck with him.

“He loved Elvis and in fact he liked anything in the south of America.

“We always had lots of fun with toy guns and we loved running around the room pretending to shoot each other!”

Harry was well known around the town during his time as a taxi driver.

Ryan said: “He never actually retired – he was doing school runs for disabled children which he loved.

“He did some charity fundraising for baby monitors.

“He did taxi-ing in Bolton and then moved to Wales and when he moved there was doing it straightaway.

“He knew how to get to places, especially with driving for the RAC.

“He was a bit of a workaholic but when he was younger he took my mum and sisters to Fleetwood and the caravan and those were happy memories.

“He moved back to Westhoughton and his daughters cared for him and he referred to them as ‘Harry’s Angels’.

“He will be fondly remember and is sadly missed by all who knew him.”

A service for Harry’s is taking place at Howe Bridge Crematorium at 2pm today.

Ryan added: “When I was with him I would have a fun time. He was an old chap but he was 21 in the head and we had fun at the water park, beach or even at the fair.”
