The last few weeks have been sore, and this time I’m not referring to Westminster.

My cycling accident a couple of weeks ago has left me with a fractured hip, three pins, a plate, and a pair of crutches. A pain around the posterior to say the least.

The doctors and nurses who are looking after me have done an incredible job, and I count myself lucky to be in their safe hands.

Though needless to say, I wish I could turn back the clock and avoid the accident altogether.

My number one priority continues to be representing my constituents in Bolton North East and it’s disappointing to not be out and about, taking part in local events from Astley Bridge to Bromley Cross.

But the doctor’s orders are to minimise my own activity, with a maximum of one or two short distance outings a week.

Clearly, I need to ration these outings wisely, so this week I took the opportunity to head to Number 10 and chat with our new Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

I initially backed Rishi in the leadership contest because I believe he was the best candidate for Bolton, and I was eager to let him know our priorities when I sat down with him this week.

I hope that as my recovery improves, I’ll be able to attend more of these meetings and continue to bat for Bolton.

With a bit of recuperation, I’ll be back on my feet in no time.

But until then, know that my office continues to fight your corner and is on hand to listen to your concerns.
