A busy dual carriage way was closed down last night as emergency services were scrambled to the area.

The A666 St Peter's Way at the Bradford Street Bridge was shut off last night just after 9pm, leaving drivers stranded.

Bradford Street was also closed down.

Police, fire, and ambluance services were all in attendance.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers responded to reports of concern for a person on the A666 St Peter’s Way in Bolton at 9.10pm on Wednesday November 9, 2022, which saw the road temporarily closed.

"Colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended to provide assistance.

"The individual engaged with officers and was led to safety, and the road was later reopened."

Watch Manager Darren Collier at Bolton Centra Fire Station said: “We were called out to assist police at the Bradford Street Bridge at 9.45pm.

“Six units from the fire service were in attendance and we were there for about four hours.

“There was a lady in a vulnerable state on top of the bridge and we assisted police in getting the lady down.

“All Bradford Street was shut down and St Peter’s way was closed too.”

On motorist who was stuck in the jam said: "All traffic diverted up the slip road and all the bridge is shut off.

"Police, ambulances and fire service all in attendance.

"We were at standstill for an hour."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We responded to a concern for welfare incident. The patient was taken to hospital."
