A "dangerous" thug carried out a "prolonged attack" on a man in Bury town centre while he was on his lunch break in a horrific street robbery.

Ibiso Bobmanuel, of Caernarvon Close, Greenmount, approached the man in the early hours of Tuesday, April 5 before assaulting him, causing "significant facial injuries", and then robbing him of his phone.

The 37-year-old was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

A Bury police spokesperson said: “After an investigation conducted by Bury Neighbourhood Crime Team Ibiso Bobmanuel, aged 37, has been sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on November 3.

“A personal robbery occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 5, whereby Bobmanuel has approached a lone adult male who was walking through Bury town centre while on a break from work and subjected him to a prolonged attack causing significant facial injuries before stealing his mobile phone.”

PC McGreavy of the Bury Neighbourhood Crime Team added: “Bobmanuel is a very dangerous individual who has previous convictions for violent robberies.

“This sentence handed out by the judge is a good deterrent for any criminal believing they can violently attack members of the community who should be able to feel safe when visiting Bury town centre.”
