One of the biggest petrol companies in Britain has updated its plans at a new drive-thru restaurant in Bolton.

EG Group, founded Blackburn-based billionaires the Issa brothers has put forward a full retrospective planning application for a drive-thru restaurant, car parking and landscaping on Manchester Road, around 1.2 miles from Bolton town centre.

The new branch has already been built but the application will mean that the company will need to be granted permission in retrospect.

A statement from EG Group property administrator Rebecca Yates said: “The proposed unit, when open, would generate 23 full-time and part-time job opportunities.

“The majority of these job opportunities will be available to local people.

“Job opportunities within the store will be across a range of scales. In addition to jobs within the store itself, other employment opportunities will be created.”

The new development is a branch Chaii Wala, an Indian brand that already has a presence all around the country.

EG Group has already brought branches to its stations elsewhere in the region, with a Chaii Wala express store having opened in Blackburn last December.

Ms Yates’ statement said: “Chaii Wala is a popular Indian street food brand with over 60 stores in the UK rapidly growing from 15 since 2019 the business is thriving and investing quickly.

“Chaii Wala has committed to open 60 new premises next year and intends to create 500 UK outlets overall. The drive-thru model will be the first of its kind.”

Plans were already approved in principle for a new drive-thru all the way back in 2017 but the new more detail proposals will now be open for consultations until December 8 this year.

After the consultation period, Bolton Council will make a decision as to whether or not to approve to grant retrospective approval.
