Plans to relocate betting shop in Radcliffe town centre have been lodged as redevelopment plans gather pace.

William Hill Ltd plan to convert the former Glam Interiors premises on Church Street West into a branch of the national gambling chain.

Documents submitted to the council this week have requested a change of use for the building from retail to licensed betting shop with a second set of proposals to install a new shop front, place a satellite dish at the building and put in air conditioning units.

The plans say that if approved two full-time and two part-time jobs will be retained within the town centre.

William Hill presently occupy premises at the Radcliffe shopping precinct at Blackburn Street, an area earmarked for redevelopment of the town centre.

Their plans would lead to them relocating across the town’s central square.

A covering letter with the plans said: “Bury Council is seeking to redevelop the block of property where William Hill are presently located for ‘proposed hub buildings’, as identified in the council’s strategic regeneration framework document and, in order that the redevelopment may proceed, vacant possession is being sought.

“William Hill wish to retain a presence in Radcliffe and they have identified 8 Church Street West as being suitable.

“Those premises have apparently been vacant for a considerable time and they are not too far distant from their existing premises.

“An attractive frontage will be provided and there will be a permanent window display.

“The present split floor levels will be removed so as to create a clear ground floor the premises will be sound-insulated and there is no question of the use causing disturbance or nuisance.”

Planners at the council will now consider the applications.
