Lancashire Day will be celebrated in Bolton this weekend with the presentation of a red rose to the first citizen.
Long serving councillor Cllr John Walsh will read out the Lancashire proclamation on the Town Hall steps before handing the ‘red rose’ of Lancashire to the Mayor.
It will read at 1.30pm.
Lancashire Day is celebrated on November 27 across the county to commemorate the day in 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representatives to Parliament.The Bolton News:
Town criers across the county read out the Lancashire Day Proclamation to mark the date.
It has become customary to celebrate the day with proud Lancastrians still marking the occasion in Bolton, despite the town being pushed into Greater Manchester under local government reorganisation of the 1970s.
The proclamation serves as a reminder that Bolton remains in county of Lancashire.
