Two drivers were taken to hospital for ‘precautionary checks’ after a crash between a police car and another vehicle.

Crews from Leigh Fire Station were called to the scene on Atherleigh Way at the junction with Lovers Lane at around 6am on Saturday morning.

There they found that a police car and other vehicle appeared to have collided with each other.

Watch manager Steven Waygood said: “There was damage to both vehicles and both drivers were taken to hospital for precautionary checks but there were no obvious injuries.”

He added: “We were at the scene for about half an hour, just making sure it was safe, and then we left the incident with the police.”

Crews from Atherton Fire Station on Gloucester Street were also called to the scene.

As yet, Greater Manchester Police have not released further details about the crash.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash and no other injuries or damage to other property or the environment have been reported.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information about the incident can call police on 101.
