An appeal has gone out for witnesses after a man appeared to try and kidnap a schoolgirl.

Police say they received reports on Monday November 21 that a 15-year-old girl had been approached by a man at a bus stop between the two roundabouts on Monton Green in Monton, Salford.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford division believe the man made advances to the girl and tried to physically get her to go with him to his car, a dark hatchback.

Detective Inspector Chris Horsfield said: “The victims have been left extremely shaken up by this encounter and it’s very important that we get this man identified and off the streets as soon as possible.”

“We believe that the man we want to speak to may have been driving a dark-coloured hatchback car, but we need to review dashcam footage to identify the make, model and registration plate.”

Having investigated CCTV footage, officers believe that this incident may be linked to two others which have recently taken place in other areas of Salford and detectives have launched Operation Wraith to investigate.

DI Horsfield and his colleagues have now called on drivers who were in the area and who may have seen anything to come forward.

They especially wish to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage of Rocky Lane, Monton Green and Monton High Street on Monday November 21 between 6-7pm.

Officers are also investigation Mossfield Road and Ackworth Road, Swinton on Monday November 21 2022 between 8-9am.

Finally, detectives hope to find footage of Liverpool Street, Salford between Fitzwarren Street and Albion Way on Wednesday November 16 between 7:45-8:20pm.

DI Horsfield said: “We are appealing to drivers in the areas on the dates and times above to please submit their dashcam footage to us, so our specialised officers can go through and analyse it.”

Anyone with relevant dashcam footage can email it cctvretrieval@gmp.police.uk with their name and contact number and detectives say they will email back with instructions to upload it.

Witnesses can also contact by police by calling 0161 856 8361 or 101 quoting log number 2786 of 21/11/22 or by using the LiveChat function on GMP’s website.
