Bolton Deaf Society is holding a free women-only health clinic with British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters next week.

The charity group has teamed up with Smears Means Years to organise the clinic on Tuesday, December 6 on Bark Street in Bolton.

Taking place between 9am and 3pm, the group welcome women to call in for a chat, free general health check, a smear test, a Covid vaccine or to find out about health and wellbeing support.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Access to healthcare and information is one of the main barriers faced by the deaf community, so it's important to create that access and highlight accessible services wherever possible.

“There will be a warm welcome and refreshments available in a safe space to chat with health advisors and nurses and there will be BSL interpreters on site all day.”

General health checks carried out by health improvement practitioners will include blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference, lifestyle discussion and signposting to relevant support and advice.

Women aged between 25 and 64 are asked to go for smear tests carried out by a trained nurse in a private space on site.

Women will need to be registered with a GP practice in Bolton so that the nurse can access health records.

Social prescribing link workers will also be on-site to help including offering support people's mental wellbeing, to be more socially connected, more independent and help with finances.
