A Bolton School student was chosen as one of the standout stars at a football tournament in Poland.

Benji Houghton, a Year 6 pupil at Bolton School Boys’ Division Junior School, was one of seven "Most Valuable Players" at the Legia football cup held in Warsaw.

He was playing with Manchester United's academy, where he has been playing for almost seven years.

Although his team did not win, he was chosen for the ‘Dream Team’ of the tournament.

The event saw around 150 players taking part in academy teams from across Europe.

Benji’s mother, Karen Houghton, said: "He gave it everything as you can imagine - he played 11 games, scoring five goals himself and setting up another nine.

"He also finished in the top 10 goal scorers.

"Needless to say, we are extremely proud of him and thrilled for him to be given this award."

The Legia Cup was Benji's third European tournament of the year, having already competed in Amsterdam, where his team was runner-up, and in the Czech Republic, where he was a winner and was awarded the overall 'Most Valuable Player' award.

Benji plays either in midfield or on the wing for Man Utd, and is a massive fan of the club.
