Bolton is set to be freezing cold this weekend with a chance of light snowfall and sleet.

The Met Office have put a yellow weather warning in place for ice until 12pm lunchtime on Sunday December 11 with temperatures likely to drop to minus three degrees Sunday evening into Monday morning.

The warning has been in place since yesterday at 4pm – and people are being warned to be cautious as some disruption is likely due to icy surfaces.

The Met Office said to expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and there will be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

Tonight, Friday, December 9, there will be wintry showers becoming more frequent along the coast overnight and pushing further inland by the early hours of Saturday.

Winds light inland but stronger on the coast and in showers. Minimum temperature -8 °C.

Tomorrow there will be a cold and cloudy start with some wintry showers possible.

Sunny spells developing in the afternoon with a risk of wintry coastal showers.

Frost and icy patches possible. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Looking onto Sunday to Tuesday, the weather will be staying cold and often dry with some sunshine, although with the possibility of isolated wintry showers at times.

Widespread and sharp frosts will continue overnight, perhaps with icy patches.
