A power cut has hit homes in Ramsbottom across nine postcodes this afternoon with more than 80 homes affected.

According to Electricity North West, the outage was first reported at around 8am this morning, Friday, December 9.

Affected postcodes include BL0 0AT, BL0 0BZ, BL0 0BY, BL0 0AN, BL0 0AS, BL0 0AR, BL0 0AW, BL0 9LS, BL0 9LR, and power cuts have also been reported in Tottington this afternoon.

Electricity North West estimates that 85 households are currently without electricity, and have confirmed that engineers are on site to fix the issue.

The company says the outage is down due to an ‘unexpected incident’ with an underground cable, but expects power to return by 4pm today.

On a statement on it’s website, Electricity North West said: “This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business.

“We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.

“Please note that all our timescales are estimated based on previous experience and may change if new information becomes available while our engineers are fixing the issue.

“With underground power cuts, we may need to dig to repair the cable and this can sometime extend the length of time you are without power.”
