The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the borough for Sunday, December 18.

The warning is for snow and ice.

"A band of rain, sleet and snow will move northeastwards across the UK on Sunday bringing the risk of disruption," the weather forecaster said.

"A period of snow will lead to some disruption to travel and other activities, before turning to rain later."

Residents are warned to expect:

  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
  • Some rural communities could become cut off
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Sunday is set to be somewhat warmer that it has been recently in Bolton, with highs of possibly reaching 8C.

The following Monday is forecasted to be even warmer, with highs of 12C.
