A man is appealing to Bolton comedian Peter Kay to send a video message to his best friend, who has cancer.

Robert Ratcliffe was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in July this year, shocking his family and friends as they rally around him for support.

The Derby born 53-year-old and his friend Stuart Wood have been fans of Peter Kay for as long as their 30-year friendship.

Robert has been given the news that there is nothing more to be done for him and in an effort to make his last days filled with happy memories, Stuart booked them to see Peter Kay live in Birmingham.

The Bolton News:

But Robert fell ill on the day and was rushed to hospital.

Stuart said: “He is devastated he hasn’t managed to see Peter live as he has never been able to obtain tickets before.

“I was hoping to get in touch with Peter to ask him if it would be at all possible for him to record a video message for Rob.

“He sadly has only a short time left and would greatly appreciate it.

“I have looked for all ways to try and contact Peter and his management team but seem to hit a brick wall. I’m determined to see this through and get something sorted for my old friend.”

The Bolton News:

Robert was recently married in November to Lindsay Ratcliffe.

Stuart said: “Rob has always been a huge fan of Pete'rs and has sadly never seen him live.

“This would mean the world to him as he is devastated when he had to go into hospital.

“He was really trying to get discharged and would have made every effort to see his comedy hero had it been possible even if it meant setting himself back with his health.

“When I initially told him I’d managed to secure tickets to see Peter the first thing he said was please don’t tell me they’re for 2023/2024 as I won’t be able to go as more than likely will be gone.”

Stuart said: “This has come out of the blue for everyone as he is very well loved and a real character and always trying to make other people laugh.

“He supported me greatly when my mother passed away, so I’m just trying to give him something special back as I know what this would mean to him.”
