A Gin company has partnered up with a day centre which provides support to people living with Dementia, to bring out a charity bottle of gin.
Etherstone Day Centre were approached by co-owner of Ginspirations, Hani Fashou, to create their own gin flavour with all proceeds going directly back to the day centre so they can provide a sensory garden for the elderly people who use the service.
Money raised will help build a new garden for the residents.
Hani approached the centre because dementia is close to his heart, and he wanted to help the day centre raise funds so they can offer more services to the customers who use the facility.
The 50cl Forget Me Not Blackberry & Apple Crumble Gin Liqueur was named after the forget me not flower which represents remembrance and is long associated with dementia and the flavour came from the elderly who use the service.
They came together to share their favourite traditional flavours from growing up and then staff at the centre made the desserts for them to taste, with blackberry and apple crumble being the winner.
Helen Mannion, of Etherstone Day Centre said: “Hani came and had a look round and really liked the centre and thought it was great and offered for us to create this gin with him and design the bottle and he put it up for retail and all the profits will come to us.
“It’s amazing and it’s the most generous thing anyone could do.”
Helen said the money will be used to create a sensory garden for their customers.
She said: “We are planning on creating a sensory garden for our customers, we have got a lovely outdoor space but its not very useable for our customers needs so we want to create something with lots of colour and lots of smells and little walkways and seating areas and something that is really useable and suits the needs of our customers who have got dementia.”
Helen said they are feeling very humbled for the opportunity Ginspirations has given them.
She said: “Not only is this a remarkable opportunity to raise funds and highlight the wonderful work of team Etherstone but it encourages open conversations about dementia, raises awareness and reduces the stigma attached to the condition.
“We are very proud, and we are very humbled by the unique gesture offered to us by Hani Fashou of Ginspiration.”

Etherstone Day Centre is a dementia friendly, welcoming and community minded base near the centre of Leigh.
