A MAN who fraudulently took driving theory tests has been jailed.

Salim Basalim travelled across the UK taking the tests on behalf of other people.

Croydon Magistrates Court heard the man, of Gibraltar Street, Bolton, first struck at the DVSA offices on Carlisle Street, Carlisle, in December last year.

He committed fraud by intending to make a gain dishonestly on behalf of another person by giving them a pass at a driving theory test.

At the start of 2022, the 32-year-old came closer to home to commit the same offence.

In January, he did the same thing at the office on Market Street, Huddersfield, and also on Uxbridge Street, Bolton.

The same month he travelled to Wales where he took a test at the office on Gateway Park, Bangor.

Two months later he continued the same fraud.

He travelled to Leeds where he carried out an offence at East Parade before later in the month heading south to carry out the offence on Vine Street, Uxbridge.

In May he resumed his offending, striking at opposite ends of the country.

The court heard he travelled to the DVSA Office at Ringway, Preston, and 12 days later was in London where he did the same thing on High Road, North Finchley.

In June, he carried out the test dishonestly on Horsefair, Shrewsbury, and on Cray Road, Sidcup.

And in August he struck at the office in Derby and in September he offended for the last time at the office on Walworth Road in South East London.

He admitted twelve counts of fraud and returned to court to be sentenced.

At Croydon Magistrates Court, Basalim was jailed for a year.

The reasons given were that the offence was “so serious because he committed thee same offence a number of times.”

The court took the guilty pleas which he entered into account when determining the sentence which it would impose.
