One of the country’s biggest plastic model shows is returning to the University of Bolton Stadium.

The Bolton International Plastic Model Society has announced that its model show is back at the home of the Wanderers after a two-year Covid-enforced hiatus.

It will return for its first time since 2020 - when it narrowly managed to avoid the first Covid lockdown - on January 22, 2023.

It brings together model clubs, traders, and enthusiasts from all over the country.

And according to show manager Rob Monfea, the news of its return has been greeted with enthusiasm by the modelling community.

“Model shows all but disappeared during lockdown, but when we announced that we were going ahead with the show in January the response was amazing from exhibitors and traders alike,” he said.

“Being right at the beginning of the year, the show is hugely popular, and we attract people from all over the country.

“The last show in 2020 attracted over 1500 visitors on the day and feedback from visitors and exhibitors was overwhelmingly positive.

“Unfortunately, since then we have lost some of our regular traders and exhibitors, but new traders and clubs have stepped in to take their places.

“We are approaching the show cautiously - it’s almost like having to start again from scratch - but hopefully everything will go to plan, and the 'Friendly Show' will be able to build on our previous success.”

As usual, the show will feature models built by groups and clubs which will be supplemented by traders selling models, paints, and tools.

The models featured will include aircraft, armour, ships figures and road vehicles.

Space and fantasy figures - many of which are film and television related - are said to be becoming increasingly popular and are like to also be on show.

The show will also have a "make and take" feature, where younger visitors will be able to have a go at building a model and take it home with them.

Admission prices have been frozen at the same as they were in 2020 - adults £5, concessions £3, and families £12.

The show is open from 10am until 4pm.
