A man has been injured and two men have been arrested after shots were fired in Swinton yesterday evening, Thursday.

Specialist police officers were sent to Overdale at around 6pm and pursued two men, aged 41 and 21, after reports that gunshots had been fired.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and firearms offences and currently remain in police custody for questioning.

Firearms officers also recovered bags containing what is estimated to be around £100,000 in cash.

One man has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. These injuries were not caused by a firearm.

Officers are still in the area as enquiries continue.

Detective inspector Steven Hughes of GMP Salford CID, said: “We understand the concern this incident will have caused our community and we have increased patrols in the area, both to reassure and to keep you safe.

“We received reports last night that a suspected firearms discharge was heard in the area at the time of the incident. At this time no evidence of a firearms discharge has been recovered however the matter is being investigated by specialist officers.

“The investigation is moving at pace and we are following up numerous lines of enquiry."

Detective inspector Charlotte Poole said: "I would like to reassure the local community that we have increased the number of patrol officers deployed to the area and are working at pace to understand the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

"If you have any concerns about this incident, please speak to one of our officers in the area who are on hand to support you.

"We would like to urge the public to come forward if they have any information that could assist our investigation, whether it be CCTV footage, doorbell footage, photos, or descriptions of the suspects or events, we would ask that you report it to us directly."
