While some of us will be finishing off our chocolates and picky foods on New Year's Day today, some of us will also want to get out into the fresh air to kick off 2023 in an active way.
Well for those of us who want to get out and about, we have come up with a list of lovely walks around Bolton.
Here are five walks which will be perfect to kick start the New Year.
Rivington Pike
Rivington is one of the best walks to do to kick start the New Year.
This is a popular route for walkers and it’s about three miles long, depending on which route you decide to take.
You can enjoy walking through Rivington Terraced Gardens and exploring a variety of paths before heading to the Rivington Pike summit.
It's the perfect place to take in the scenery, especially when you reach the summit and see 360-degree views across the borough.
Moses Gate Country Park
Are you looking for a walk with the chance to feed the ducks with the kids?
Well, Moses Gate Country Park is 750 acres with two beautiful lakes, is very accessible, and has free parking available.
The wildlife is also the perfect place for anyone who loves birds and nature photography.
Not only is it a great place for a lovely walk, but there is also a children’s play park.
Moss Bank Park
Moss Bank Park is a lovely place for a game of football or other sporty activities with the family as well as a lovely walk and a huge play area for the children to enjoy.
There is also a café which offers great food and drink options.
Parking is free for all.
Jumbles Country Park
Jumbles is a lovely place to walk around with a large reservoir and a Tea Garden Café with lots of treats on offer.
The nice New Year’s Day walk is located around 4 miles away from the town centre.
Smithills Country Park
Smithills is also a fantastic place to take the family on the first day of 2023.
It has 2,000 acres of cycling and walking trails alongside a Grade I listed Smithills Hall in the middle.
Views of the West Pennine Moors can also be seen whilst on this walk.
