Police are appealing to for help from members of the public after packages were thrown over the prison wall at HMP Forest Bank.

Officers have released pictures of a man who they believe can help with their enquiries.

The incident took place at 9.30am on December 23 last year.

Anyone who can identify the man in question us urged to call 101 quoting "CRI/06FF/0038871/22."

A GMP spokesperson added: "People can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

It is unclear what was contained within the packages which were thrown over the wall.

The prison, located on Agecroft Road in Pendlebury, Salford, was opened in January 2000.

It is one of three prisons within Greater Manchester and is the one in which most people from Bolton will be sent to serve a prison sentence or if they are remanded ahead of a court appearance.

It has a capacity of 1,460 prisoners.
