This video shows the moment two 56-tonne structures left a Lostock steelworks this week – the largest structures ever to leave the site.

GMP Traffic shared the video on social media on the night of January 10 after an escort saw the abnormal loads from Lostock Lane, past the University of Bolton Stadium on De Havilland Way, and onto the motorway.

Severfield Ltd, the steelworks behind the two 56-tonne structures, said these were for the Salterhebble Bridge scheme in West Yorkshire.

In partnership with John Sisk and Son Ltd, it is building the bridge and an accompanying link road on behalf of client Calderdale Council.

Andrew Smedley, production director at Severfield Ltd, said: "The Severfield team at Lostock has been working with our partner Collett and Sons on the transportation of what are the largest pieces of steelwork to ever leave our site near to Bolton.

"On January 10, the first load set off under escort to the Salterhebble Bridge Phase 1B project in West Yorkshire, where our construction team, working alongside civil engineering company John Sisk and Son Ltd, is installing a new bridge and link road on behalf of their client, Calderdale Council. Each section of steelwork measures 48 metres long and weighs an impressive 56 tonnes."

And GMP Traffic's post on social media on the night of January 10 said: "A job well done by all, no issues. And a BIG thanks to the public for their patience."
