Hauntings at historic Bolton cottage which once hid Oliver Cromwell's troops during the English Civil War have been investigated by a urban explorer.

Ivy Cottage  on Cunliffe Brow, Smithills is 500 years-old and has recently been explored by Jay Morris after hearing about the place from locals - particularly to explore whether the reports of haunting was true.

Jay said: “When I did the video of the cottage, I didn’t know what I had caught.

“A lot of people messaged me after the paranormal video to say that they saw a woman and a man.”

The Bolton News:

The dark figures captured are believed to a couple called Mr and Mrs Cox who used to live in the cottage.

Jay says he also felt the spirit poke him, as well as hearing the spirits.

Jay added: “A woman got in touch who used to own the cottage and said it’s someone called Mr and Mrs Cox who she used to see.

“Mrs Cox has black hair and a pale face and a parting in her hair.

“The woman spirit is so clear and it’s amazing.

“It actually proves there are spirits still here.

“This is my first ever capture of spirits too.”

On Jay’s visit he was also joined by paranormal investigators from Haunted Stories and Investigations.

Jay has been exploring old buildings and documenting his findings. He has a Youtube Channel called Morris’s Paranormal Adventures UK.

He added: “I have done it for around a year, but only just started doing videos of these buildings and paranormal ones, and meeting up with other paranormal investigators like Haunted Stories and Investigations.

“I mostly go out alone and find these places as I like the fear you get as you don't know what is in there, and I love the history too it’s amazing.”

The derelict historic cottage has previously been the target of vandalism and many locals have called for more to be done to save it.

Jay added: “It’s a beautiful place and I can’t believe they left it like this.

“A lot of people don’t want the building to go.

“It’s a big thing in Bolton and it’s part of history.”

Jay has also said he is more than happy for people to send him requests for places they would like him to visit.
