Turton Young Farmers met up with Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (MRT)  to present them with a cheque for £3,618.82.

The young farmers hosted their second annual Tractor Run before Christmas and raised funds along the way with proceeds being split between Bolton MRT and Turton Young Farmers Club.

On January 18, members of the Turton Young Farmers met up with Bolton MRT at its base camp where they were given an interesting tour of the base, the equipment and vehicles and were given an explanation on how they help to support other emergency services when their specialists’ skills are required.

As well as being the young farmers chosen charity for 2022/23, Bolton Mountain Rescue is also very special for one of the members, Nelly Dickinson, who was extremely proud to be able to present the cheque to her grandad John who is a longstanding member at Bolton MRT.

Natalie Wood, a Club Leader for Turton Youth Farmers, said: “It costs £50,000 a year for Mountain Rescue to operate, so this donation will support them in their running of the organisation, and we are proud to have supported this worthy cause.”

The tractor run raised £5,000 for the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and Turton Youth Farmers Club.

People flocked to the streets across Lancashire at Brocklehead Farm, the Golden Cup, Darwen Town Centre, Ocean Palace, Cross Guns in Egerton, Bromley Cross Train Station, Turton Tower, the Black Bull in Edgworth, Toby in Broadhead, Grey Mare on Grane Road, the Dog Inn, Belthorn, Hoddlesden and Brocklehead Farm to see the tractors.

There were 83 tractors and tractor units in total out on the road and people were seen lining the streets and some even has fire pits set up.

Natalie said: “How I feel after the event is relieved, I couldn’t have done it without the committee, but I think we are ready to go for it again next year.”
