Calls have been made for a speed enforcement camera to be installed on a bus road.

Cllr Hamid Khurram believes if measures are not take to address speeding traffic on Bradford Road, Farnworth, the number of collisions and injuries will increase.

Councillor Khurram, who represents the Harper Green ward, said he has put in his request and has been told there are more than 300 streets in Greater Manchester ahead of it in the queue for a speed camera.

At a recent Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting the councillor raised the issue and was told a speed gun had been used in the area.

But he said this was only a “temporary” measure and a speed camera was needed.

He said: “I have had complaints from the residents concerned with this road.

“It goes all the way down towards the town centre.

“This road is getting busier and busier and speeding is an issue.

“I have requested that police put a speed camera here but we have told we are around 352.

“When I raised it with the police the other day I was told the use a speed gun.

“That is a temporary solution.

“The residents are not satisfied with that.

“They are saying on Bradford Road we need to get a permanent speed camera.

"It has been a problem for years and it is getting worse as the road gets busier."

He said the road linked with other roads where speeding is said to be an issue, including Lavender Road and Harper Green Road.

The former resident of Bradford Road said he witnessed a bad accident in the area.

He said: “I was working and I heard a big bang.

“I thought what had happened.

“I came out, one car had gone on top of another car.

“That was in early 2022 and there were serious injuries."
