A woman has been injured after a 2 car crash at a busy junction in Bolton.

Blackburn Road was closed between Astley Street and Waters Meeting Road as emergency services are attended.

A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital but her injuries are not thought to be serious.

The crash took place at the junction with Ullswater Street near the Aleef Superstore.

Both cars were extensively damaged in the accident.

A North West Ambulance service spokesperson said: "We got a call at 4.55pm to an incident outside the Tramways Hotel.

"It looks like one patient, a woman in her 40s, will be taken to hospital.

"Her injuries don't look serious."

Police have declined to comment on the incident.

The road was taped off throughout the rush hour as police awaited recovery.

Cllr Emily Mort was passing by and sh told The Bolton News that residents have been concerned about the frequency of road incidents in the area.

Cllr Mort said that the incident had caused delays.

A cordon was placed on Ullswater Street.

Nearby employee Sajid Patel said he saw the incident.

He said it was a two-car collision and paramedics treated people at the scene.

There is much speculation about what has happened, but the police have refused to comment as the incident did not involve serious injury and as a result not considered to be a serious incident.

Last month a two vehicle crash caused the road to close.
