Bolton College is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week with the help of a former star of BBC’s The Apprentice.

Adam Corbally, once named the nation’s favourite ever contestant to grace Lord Alan Sugar’s boardroom by Radio Times, will be visiting 12 local secondary schools alongside Bolton College’s Schools liaison coordinator, Ian Littlewood.

National Apprenticeship Week started on Monday, February 6 and runs until Saturday, February 12 and the college has also produced a series of short films about its apprenticeship experience to mark the occasion.

Apprentices and their employers have been visited in the workplace by the college and the productions will be released throughout the week on the college’s social media channels.

The college, which is part of the University of Bolton Group, works with over 600 leading employers across the North West, supplies apprentices for a variety of sectors, including construction, education, and financial services.

The apprenticeships the educator offers come complete with a salary and a contract.

The apprentices spend 80 percent of their time learning on the job, and the rest of the time is spent in the classroom.

This year, for the first time during National Apprenticeship Week, a day will be devoted to T Levels - #TLevelThursday.

Sector-specific industry placements form 20 per cent of the T Level programme, allowing students to put their learning into practice, providing them with the skills that businesses seek when recruiting.

These qualifications, equivalent to three A Levels, were introduced to the College in 2021.

A selection of construction T Level students recently benefited from a placement at Bethell where they worked on real life construction sites.

And digital students are also enjoying a 26-week placement at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the global edge-to-cloud digital company.

Catherine Langstreth, Bolton College’s assistant principal of C=curriculum and stakeholders, said: “Apprentices are the lifeblood of many businesses and over the years thousands of our apprentices have secured permanent employment or progressed to university.

“This week is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the skills and talents of apprentices like Corey and Katie, and to celebrate the partnerships we have built with employers throughout the region, without whom these Apprenticeships would not be possible.”
