A man is in hospital after police believe he was attacked during an attempted robbery.

Officers taped off an area in Halliwell after being called at 5am after concerns were raised about the man.

Police cordoned off an area of Halliwell Road at the junction with Brownlow Road, near Bestys Off-licence.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: “GMP were called regarding the concern for the welfare of a man at around 5am this morning on Halliwell Road, Bolton.

“It is believed he was assaulted after an attempted robbery.

The Bolton News:

“The extent of the injuries sustained are unclear this time as treatment is still being given at hospital.

“No arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 339 of 07/02/23.”

A unit from the police’s crime scene investigation unit attended the scene and removed a t-shirt which had been left there.

People nearby said they believed two men had been involved in a fight.

A cordon was placed outside the shop which was allowed to open at around 11.30am.

Local residents say that they do have issues with drugs in the area but there is no indication that this incident is drugs related.

The owner, Adam, who did not want to give his surname, said: "I was asleep upstairs.

"There are a lot of problems with drug users here.

"We were meant to open at 8.30am but they let us open at 11.30am."
