A 23-year-old man died from pneumonia after being admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital, an inquest heard.

Joshua James Anderson of 3L Care Ltd, Atherton, was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital in a “very frail condition” on December 28, 2021.

He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child and was given a series of antibiotics whilst in hospital.

Police coroner’s officer Neil McCaffrey said: “At around 8.45am on December 31, 2021, life extinct was declared at Royal Bolton Hospital.

“On January 6 the identity of Joshua James Anderson was confirmed using a photograph by his care assistant Kirsty Moon.”

At the time of his death, he was an agricultural contractor.

The medical cause of death was given as pending further investigation and bronchopneumonia with cerebral palsy with head injury.

Prof Dr Alan Walsh said that an investigation was opened on January 10, 2022, with the body being released under the order that samples taken by Dr Robinson remained until an inquest was held.

The police investigation is currently ongoing, which Dr Walsh said “may well continue for some time”.

An update is expected to be given on February 24.

Dr Walsh said: “I will not list the inquest for a hearing.

“I will diarise February 24 and then I will take a view with regards to a listing.

“This will be resumed at a date in the future – the date on or before February 24.”
