Midwives in Bolton have signed up to a new charter aimed at providing the best possible environment for women, babies and families.

The Royal College of Midwives Caring for You charter aims at improving care all across the country.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust says that signing up to the charter shows how dedicated staff are to providing the best experience for mothers-to-be and babies.

Director of midwifery Janet Cotton said: “We are committed to ensuring a positive working environment for our dedicated midwives and maternity support workers.

“The charter encourages teams to focus on principles such as creating an inclusive culture, safe learning environments, and flexible and innovative working patterns to support effective working within our teams.

“Providing this environment will not only help our staff but also provide the best environment for women, their babies and their loved ones.

“We’re excited about the next steps and the future of maternity services here in Bolton.”

The charter commits Bolton NHS Foundation Trust to ensuring a positive, inclusive culture where staff feel valued, respected and invested in and to providing a safe and healthy working environment.

It also aims to address inequality, incivility and other negative behaviours and to nurture staff to be the best they can be while working in partnership with the Royal College of Midwives.
