Two people jumped out of a window after a fire broke in the early hours out at the back of a restaurant which is due to open in the coming weeks.

Fire crews were called to the back of Roman Pizzeria on Derby Street at 3am after a blaze broke out at the back of the newly rennovated restaurant.

Four people were asleep in the flats upstairs when the fire started and firefighters said two people jumped out of the window to escape.

The fire is said to have broken out at the back of the building, which has been extensively damaged.

The inside of the restuarant escaped fire damage with damage confined to outside of the building.

The Bolton News:

No one was said to be injured in the blaze.

Firefighters from Bolton Central and Bolton North were mobilised and were on the scene for just under two hours.

Watch Manager, Darren Collier said: “We attended a fire at restaurant on Derby street, 158-160 Roman Pizzeria.

“It was not open yet but was due to open in a couple of weeks.

“A fire broke out at back of the building at the refrigeration unit due to an electrical fault.

“It was 3.20am and we were there for an hour and a half, with three fire engines, two from Bolton, one from Bolton North.

The Bolton News:

“Four people were in at time and two got out through the door while two jumped from bedroom windows but nobody was injured.

“The damage was confined to the outside of the building, but no actual fire inside. “

Mr Collier spoke about the importance of having a smoke alarm.

Watch manager Darren Collier said: “It’s important that they were alerted by smoke alarm that they were able to get out.

“We fit them free of charge if anybody requires any within their property.

“It was an electric fault so nothing further to be done and they were being housed somewhere else.”

Next door to the new restaurant, a spokesman for convenience shop Ted’s said he had driven down himself as he was worried it would spread.

A spokesman for Ted’s said: “I drove down here when I heard because I was scared the fire would spread here too.

“The owner didn’t know but I rang him.

“He’s due to open soon so this is not good for him, he’s going to have to do some work at the back now before opening.

“He only recently finished everything.”
