A brass band based in Rivington have been invited to represent the North West in the upcoming British National Brass Band Championship.
Rivington and Adlington Brass Band battled to second place in the regional qualifiers at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The band’s former musical director Matt Whitfield conducted.
The band played first out of 15 competing bands and taking a hard fought second place in the highly competitive fourth section.
Adlington’s impressive performance was widely praised, with a great band sound and impressive performances by their soloists.

The bands success came playing the test piece ‘Hungerford Town’ composed the late, Salford born, composer Darrol Barry.
This inspired performance sees the band invited to the national finals which will take place in Cheltenham in September, and it is the second time in six years that the band has received this honour.
Band Chairman Andre Baron praised the determination of the players saying: “I am proud of the players that we have at Rivington Band, in the face of adversity we pulled together as a team and got a great result.”
Before heading off to Cheltenham the band will join the St. Pauls Players for a weeklong series of performances of Brassed Off at the Adlington Community Centre from March 7 to 11.
