A Westhoughton councillor has aired his frustration over a number of streetlights which have been broken for almost two years.
Cllr David Wilkinson said a street lighting issue has been ongoing for some time in Daisy Hill and other areas of Westhoughton which is leaving residents feeling ‘vulnerable’ and ‘not safe’.
He said the issue first began when a streetlight was broken on The Pewfist Estate and since ‘even more streetlights maintained by Onward have failed’.
Cllr David Wilkinson said: “The street lighting issue has been going for nearly two years starting with this broken streetlight, despite promises from Onward to replace the streetlights on the estate.
“Nearly two years and still no action from Onward, the Housing Association who owns The Pewfist estate in Daisy Hill and more properties across Westhoughton.
“This streetlight [the one in the picture] broke into two nearly two years ago and since then even more streetlights maintained by Onward have failed, now a total of ten, leaving large parts of the estate in total darkness and leaving residents feeling vulnerable and not safe on the estate at night."

A spokesperson for Onward said: “We would like to thank residents for their ongoing patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the delays in repairing the lamppost.
“This type of repair requires specialist equipment and unfortunately it has taken longer than anticipated to complete the repair.
“We are working with contractors and will progress the works as a priority and expect it to be complete in April.
“We will contact Councillor Wilkinson to keep him updated on the progress of this work.
“We will also inform residents once this work is complete and would encourage them to get in touch if they have any concerns in the meantime.”
