Nominations are being sought for young citizens who deserve recognition.
Horwich Town Council is staging Horwich Young Citizen of the Year Award 2023 to recognise the achievements of young people up to and incuding the age of 25 and have achieved in someway, whether that be academically, in sport, art or any other field.
The winner might also have gone the extra mile to help the community through charity or voluntary work.
They must live, study, or work in Horwich to be eligible.
The award is designed to:
- Recognising good community work
- Building self esteem
- Showing a positive attitude towards the community
- Developing an understanding of what citizenship means
Members of the public, schools, community groups, sport groups and organisations are all being encouraged to contact the Horwich Town Council with their nominations.
There is a form to be completed which can be downloaded from the council’s website - www.horwich.gov.uk. They are also available to be collected form Horwich Community Centre.
Alternatively, residents can email townclerk@horwich.gov.uk to request a copy.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 31, and the winner will receive a gift voucher and a certificate of achievement presented by the Mayor of Horwich, Cllr Steven Chadwick, at April's Council meeting.
All nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Cllr Steven Chadwick said: "It's always great to recognise people, particularly those who make a positive difference to our town, those who go above and beyond, and those who excel in a particular field.
“Horwich Town Council quite rightly already recognises those who have provided over 20 years’ service to our town through the Civic Medals it awards, however, this initiative for a Young Horwicher of the Year promotes civic pride and recognises the great actions of our younger residents.
“I would strongly encourage people to get in contact and nominate a young, outstanding resident for the Horwich Young Citizen of the Year Award so great work in our community can be quite rightly celebrated."
