A road was closed in Bolton today (Saturday) after a car crash.

Chorley Old Road was cordoned off by emergency services at its junction with Moss Bank Way after a car crashed into an electrical box near McDonald’s.

The crash, which happened just before 11.30am, involved one car. Its driver wasn’t hurt in the collision.

Electricity North West engineers were forced to carry out works to make the box safe.

Police and fire services were also in attendance.

Crew manager Adam Derbyshire of Horwich Fire Station said: “There was a small crash at the junction of Moss Bank Way and Chorley Old Road. The road was closed.

“A car had crashed into a live communications cabinet for 5G. It was near the roundabout, at the side of the McDonald’s.

“The person who was in the car was fine.

“They veered off the road and hit the communications cabinet. The car was quite a mess.”

Crew manager Derbyshire confirmed that the car would have been a write off.

He continued: “Electricity North West had to dig it all up to make it safe and isolate it. Police were also in attendance.

“There was one fire engine from Horwich.”

The road was reopened at about noon.
