An instructoris encouraging girls from ethnic minorities to take up paddle sports.

Anna Stishova runs the Muslim Girls Paddle Sports Club in Bolton after first starting the group in July last year.

The club is open to women and girls aged at eight from all religious backgrounds.

Since them, Anna works hard to teach women and girls how to kayak, canoe, and paddleboard all in Bolton.

She said: “I wanted to see more Muslim women in paddle sports and when I moved here from London.

“There’s a big Muslim community in Bolton so I started to look for places to start the group."

The Bolton News:

Anna is originally from Russia before she moved to London in 2003 and then to Bolton to live with her husband.

While in Russia, Anna was a keen paddle sports enthusiast and took part many times.

Anna wants to make sure more women and girls feel comfortable especially in the North West to go and try the paddle sports.

She said: “It’s amazing to be outdoors because it gets you fit, you can make new friends, it’s good for your core and for your mental health.

The Bolton News:

“I want more people to join as well from minority backgrounds because it isn’t usually something these groups of women will do and I am sure they will enjoy it if they try it.”

Anna wants to dispel the idea that it is too cold to try water sports in the UK as she advises women can simply dress for the weather and water temperature.

She added: “You also don’t need to a confident swimmer, you just need to be able to splash around a little so we could get you on the boat.

“It’s easy and anyone can do it.”
