A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Bolton today, Monday, which will last until tomorrow, Tuesday.

The warning from forecaster, Met Office, which affects the North West, runs from 5pm today until 10am tomorrow.

The forecast states there will be "rain, sleet and snow followed by ice likely to cause some impacts to travel".

Although Bolton has experienced a short period of sunshine today the weather has mostly been quite wet.

This is expected to continue throughout the rest of the day, with heavy rain due from around 2pm until 7pm.

Today will see a high of 11° and a low of 0°.

There will then be light showers for the rest of the evening from 8pm onwards, according to the forecast.

Tuesday will start off with some heavy rain but it will be mostly dry, with a few sunny intervals expected from 7am.

During the sunny periods, there will be a few light showers, as well as some sleet.

By 6pm the weather is expected to be cloudy before becoming clear by 8pm.

Tomorrow will see a high of 5°and a low of -1°.

Many parts of the UK shivered through another freezing day on Saturday with cloud and rain spreading in from the west.

Temperatures plunged to as low as minus 15.7C in Altnaharra in northern Scotland on Saturday while the highest temperature of 12.C was recorded at St Marys Airport on the Isles of Scilly, south west of Cornwall.
