A bedroom was destroyed in a house fire after a candle left unattended caught bedding.

Firefighters were called to Rydal Street in Leigh just before 9pm.

Three fire crews from  Leigh, Atherton, and Hindley attended Rydal Street at around 8.50pm last night.

Crew manager Graham Holmes said that the candle had caught the bedding, setting it on fire.

The people in the property werre out as fire crews arrived  and there were no reported injuries.

Four breathing apparatus and a hose reel were used to extinguish the bedroom, which is now “completely lost”.

Crews stayed on the scene until around 10.10pm to make the house safe.

Mr Holmes said: “The fire started in the bedroom with a candle that was left unattended.

“We got the call at 8.50pm last night.

“They nipped downstairs after lighting a candle in the bedroom.

“The candle then caught the bedding.

“They were all aware because of having a smoke alarm.

“Everyone was out of the property and no one was injured.

“The bedroom is completely lost.”
