More than 70 bags of rubbish were collected at the weekend thanks to volunteers and businesses trying to keep Radcliffe clean.

The Radcliffe Litter Pickers joined forces with businesses on Saturday, March 18, to clean the areas near Pilkington Way, Asda and Dunelm.

Around 35 people attended the clean-up and collected 71 bags of rubbish along with other large items that had been dumped.

Volunteer Gill Smith said: “It’s something we plan to keep doing every four to six weeks and will keep encouraging local businesses to get involved.

“If every business and individual looked after their own area it would make such a difference to the littering problem.

“People need to stop dropping litter, throwing it out of cars and pick up after their dogs, use a bin or take it home.”

Businesses Asda, Brightside and Dunelm joined volunteers and were provided with complimentary drinks at McDonald’s, served by the staff members who helped pick.

Gill has since encouraged anyone who sees litter near where they live to get in touch with the group.
