A group of crooks broke into a vulnerable man's flat before stealing a number of personal items, including a debit card which they used to buy alcohol and cigarettes.
Steven Catterall, Luke Smith and Simon Castle targeted the property on Church Street West in Radcliffe in the early hours of June 16 last year after seeing the communal door to the group of flats was not secure.
The occupant, whose daughter was also staying over, was woken by someone shouting "hello", prosecutor Keith Jones told Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
He got out of bed to see the lights in the home had been switched on and woke up his daughter.
The man then spotted a passing police car and flagged it down before explaining what had happened.
Car keys, house keys, £20 in cash a passport and a debit card had been stolen by the criminals, who used a torch during the burglary.
At around this time, his daughter received an alert on her phone from her bank informing her of a £21.95 charge on her card from a local petrol station.
Police visited the petrol station and the shopkeeper confirmed a group of men had been there.
They had bought vodka and cigarettes in the store, the court heard.
Items that had been stolen at the flat were found after being discarded.
These included the keys, passport and debit card.
In a victim impact statement, the man, who was described as being vulnerable, said he feels "sick, scared and unsafe" in his home.

The court was told all three defendants has been before the courts numerous times over the years.
They all pleaded guilty to burglary while Catterall, of Bridgefield Walk, Radcliffe, also admitted to one count of fraud by false representation.
Defending the 44-year-old, Mark Shanks said Catterall had encountered the "perfect storm" with his personal life in the previous two years.
Mr Shanks said Catterall has shown remorse, that he wants to turn his life around to support his adult children and is "sick" of taking drugs and drinking alcohol.
Defending Castle, 38, of no fixed address, Kevin Liston said his client has worked hard to battle his drug addiction and he is able to be rehabilitated.
Smith, of Market Place, Middleton, was defended by Patrick Buckley, who said that the 32-year-old has been in employment before and has had methadone treatment.
It was also mentioned that entry to the flat was not forced as the front door was unlocked.

Addressing them all, Judge Bernadette Baxter said the break-in "must have been terrifying" for the victim.
She said there was "some degree of planning" with the use of the torch and they were out looking for a way to buy drugs and alcohol.
"All of you have bad criminal records", Judge Baxter added.

Catterall was sentenced to 20 months while Smith was given an 18-month sentence.
Taking into account Castle's circumstances, Judge Baxter spared Castle from going to jail and handed down an 19-month sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete a 12-month drug rehabilitation activity requirement order and a thinking skills programme and was given a three-month curfew.
